Theatre of the People (TOP) aims to engage individuals through inclusive process-based theatre projects, educational community programs, and artistic collaborations that empower participants to productively express themselves.
To support this mission: TOP will develop and facilitate innovative community theatre art programs in conjunction with other like-minded social service organizations that enrich, educate, and entertain participants of all ages and abilities.
TOP will employ alternative theatre approaches that are participant-feedback driven and modeled after evidence-based best practices to create original community artwork.
TOP will facilitate creative community expression that emphasizes democratic decision-making processes in small group settings to improve each participant's sense of self-empowerment and civic engagement skills.
TOP will incorporate humanitarian themes into community-created artwork, when appropriate, to increase public awareness of underrepresented issues through the exploration of audience-participant artistic exchanges.
TOP will practice theatrical artwork to benefit Bloomington and Monroe County's maturation as a more conscious, compassionate, and civil community where everyone can fulfill his/her inherent creative potential.
TOP will produce three (3) or more participatory artistic experiences per year that involve participants in all aspects of performance art production and that are open to any and all willing community members.
TOP will strive to establish artistic and financial partnerships with community non-profits, local small businesses, and other interested persons to offer public artwork and education services at affordable prices to accommodate all audiences. |
